Nighttime: High-Low, Printed Dress

I wore this dress during the day (seen here) and changed it up in a few short minutes to wear later that night for dinner and drinks with friends. The vintage Azzedine Alaia heels won and I paired them with a few other dressy accessories like a delicate gold bag, chunky bracelets and a cocktail ring.

I like to keep nighttime looks simple – and a little sexy. A good pair of heels, dress and clutch is all you really need. I took off the casual belt and denim jacket, and opted for a motorcycle leather jacket instead (it gets surprisingly chilly at night and we usually try to take advantage of outdoor places). With minimal layers and accessories, the dress’ sheer overlay, asymmetrical hemline and sheer back panel standout.

Printed dress: Zara, leather jacket: Nordstrom (love this one currently on sale), heels: vintage Azzedine Alaia, bag: vintage Chanel, bracelets: Nordstrom (cuff), Sheila Fajl (bangles) and vintage (triple strand), rings: Suzanne Felsen (cocktail), Gorjana, XIV Karats and Ariel Gordon (bands).

Beauty note: To easily transition my beauty look for night, I pulled out the half braids (here) and went for a loose wave instead. On lips, I applied a brighter, bolder pink-red shade.

Black or Blush, That is the Question

Do you ever get stuck when it comes to which shoes to wear? I do…fairly often, actually. Shoes are as important as clothes, so choosing footwear can be a tough decision. For tomorrow’s outfit – a nighttime remix of this daytime look –  I had a hard time picking between my two favorites. On the left are black ankle strap heels from Zara that are flattering and go with everything. Or, the strappy, vintage Azzedine Alaia numbers in blush satin (with a red heel) on the right.

What do you guys think? Find out what I ended up wearing tomorrow (hint: I went for fun).

Selecting shoes might be less of a question if I didn’t have so many. This week’s conquest:

These striped espadrilles were on crazy sale at J.Crew (extra 40% off already discounted items).

Happy hump day! xx

Currently Craving: Contrasting Textures

As clearly seen in my latest outfit post, (chambray + silky cotton + faux suede + heavy metal), I have a thing for mixing contrasting textures/fabrics. Whether it’s done with a single piece, or by combining separates of varying fabrics, playing with texture adds interest to a look. These Giuseppe Zanotti heels kill me every time. Pearls, and leather, and suede! Oh my!

A bronze sequin collar and matching pleated, silk shirt.

This look from Celine’s 2013 resort collection mixes texture flawlessly. The contrasts in the materials stand out in its monochromatic color scheme – silky, sheer blouse with crinkled twill pants and a structured leather bag.

DIY eye-catching sneakers made by combining metal studs with canvas.

Caroline Sieber, (a stylist, Vogue contributor and Chanel ambassador who always looks perfect), wears loose, flowy chiffon with cashmere. She pairs the clothes with structured leather heels and an embellished clutch. The lavender and navy color combination is equally divine.

Wendy makes her silky, leopard shift dress even more chic by adding DIY contrasting leather pockets. Adorable!

Pearl shoes: Jak & Jil, sequin collar: Asos, Celine: style.com, studded Vans: Honestly WTF, skirt and sweater: Candice Lake, leopard shift dress: Wendy’s Lookbook.

Colorblocking in Tangerine Tango

These photos were taken a few weeks ago before our last dinner in Hawaii (see photo two). This color blocked dress felt flirty, fun and just sexy enough for a special date night. Strapless dresses are my go-to for special occasions. I find them particularly flattering; exposed clavicles are sexy in an unobvious way.  I paired the flirty dress with sneakers and a denim-colored clutch to keep the outfit low-key. It was perfect for a long walk along the beach and soaking up our last few hours of beautiful views over a delicious meal.

Dress: Urban Outfitters (also love this and this), sneakers: Converse Jack Purcell, clutch: Rebecca Minkoff (similar here and here), sunglasses: Ray-Ban (similar), bracelets: vintage (triple strand), Sheila Fajl (thin bangles), Bauble Bar (neon orange and gold link), wood ring: bought at a street fair, green cardigan: H&M.

Beauty note: I didn’t want to spend any time on my beauty routine while on vacation. I spritzed beach-y texturizing spray in my hair and scrunched to quickly create soft waves. For makeup, tinted SPF moisturizer and waterproof mascara were lightweight enough for the heat and humidity, and beach-ready.
