Five Faves: Met Gala Red Carpet 2012

The 2012 Metropolitan Costume Exhibit was last night, which honored designers Elsa Shiaparelli and Miuccia Prada. The Met Gala is referred to as The Oscars of fashion, but it’s arguably better combining fashion and entertainment greats in dramatic, daring looks. The night is about showing off talented designers with the hottest models and stars wearing their gowns. Gothic-inspired ensembles seemed to reign supreme, but there were also pops of bright citrus dresses and some romantic, light-colored gowns too. The Prada-clad women were my favorite of the night (many wore the honoree’s clothing), but Stella McCartney and McQueen also had a great turnout. Here are my five favorite dresses:

My jaw dropped when I saw Diane Kruger in this dramatic purple Prada gown. I love that she paired the dress with large jeweled accessories and relaxed, effortless hair and makeup.

Carey Mulligan

The event’s co-host Carey Mulligan looked divine in a fish scale-like paillette Prada dress.

Cate Blanchett, one of my style icons was stunning in a black, feathered Alexander McQueen.

Kate Bosworth’s look was fresh and fun with ombre feathers, dark lips and toes, and glittery platform heels.

Kristen Wiig looked lovely in Stella McCartney. The flawless fit of her orange lace dress combined with the designer’s fall collection olive colored shoes got me.

There were so many fabulous couples at the event that I had to include my favorite two:

Jessica Biel in Prada with her fiance(!) Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford.

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady in complimentary Givenchy looks. His jacket is velvet. Enough said.

Who were your favorites of the night?
