Happy New Year

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year’s Eve and an even better 2012. I still can’t believe today is the last day of the year! I am in San Francisco visiting friends and family. The past few days have been great and I’m looking forward to ringing in the New Year in one of my favorite cities with close friends.

Chanel Spring 2012. So pretty, so fluffy.

A handmade Italian vase that I found while antique shopping in Alameda (my hometown near San Francisco). The antique shops are the best here.

I just love these chocolate covered sunflower seeds. They are festive and tasty. Perfect for NYE in the right dish with a baby spoon.

Guest Blog Post: New Year’s Eve Beauty

I’m happy to have Elizabeth of Spike the Punch as a guest blogger to share some of her New Year’s Eve beauty must-haves. Visit Spike the Punch to check out my NYE guest post as well. It’s been fun working with Elizabeth and I look forward to future collaborations like this!

New Years Eve is quickly approaching and who doesn’t want to ring in the first hours of 2012 looking fabulous? Here’s a look at a few of the products I’ll be relying on come December 31.

1. Violent Lips

NYE is the best night of the year to give a new, dramatic style a try and these temporary lip tattoos by Violent Lips are the perfect anecdote to an otherwise downplayed look. The added bonus is that since they adhere to your lips, there’s no need for reapplication and no funky lipstick marks on your champagne glass!

2. Exude

If the glitter lip tattoos are a bit too much for you (no judgment here), Exude lip cremes are a great option. They have a range of flattering, dramatic shades and each is subtly scented in mint, just in case you happen to snag a kiss at midnight!

3. Tatcha

Nobody wants to spend half the night in the bathroom reapplying powder, or worse, looking shiny-faced and these face blotting sheets by Tatcha are the perfect solution. They’re absorbent and won’t leave any residue or alter your make-up. The sheets themselves are also super chic (black with flecks of gold foil) so there’s no shame in pulling these out of your clutch for a quick pat or two.

4. OPI

No New Years Eve look is complete without a festive manicure. I recommend Crown Me Already for fun, ultra-shimmery nails but if you want something a little more subtle, you can also opt for a vibrant opaque hue (I like OPI’s Pink Flamenco) with just the ring finger nail painted with a glitter lacquer.

5. NYX

Eyes are a great feature to play up on New Year’s Eve with some shimmer and if you don’t already own a good glitter palette, NYX recently came out with these highly pigmented 5-shade eyeshadow cremes sets that are so inexpensive (around $6 at Ulta) you can afford to use them only once (not that you should!).

6. Juicy Couture

Finally, don’t forget some perfume before you run out the door! Juicy Couture makes some really fun, sparkly baubles that double as solid perfumes.

Exciting News: Guest Blogger Coming Tomorrow!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! I am so excited to announce the first guest blogger post on The Autumn Issue, which will be going up on the site tomorrow. Elizabeth of Spike the Punch will write the first guest post. Elizabeth is quite the beauty fiend (and expert), and has a great eye for accessories. Aside from blogging, she also designs (amazing) jewelry. I especially love her necklaces. The fun, statement necklaces dress up any outfit and come in great color combos like the one below. Check out her online shop on Etsy.

Lovely Spaces, Places and Things

I’m off to San Diego with my family to enjoy a weekend getaway at a resort there. The weekend will be full of relaxing (a spa day may be in order), good food and shopping. We’ve gone for past holidays and love the variety of things to do in the area. One of our musts is visiting Old Town San Diego. Old Town has the most amazing Mexican food (my favorite) and shops filled with vibrantly colored pottery, candles and flowers. Hopefully I will have some snapshots to share soon, but in the meantime here are some Lovely Spaces, Places and Things.

How cool is this restaurant in the Netherlands by Tjep? I want to be eating in one of those cozy pods. The little chandeliers add just the right amount of glam.

We have an awkward wall above our bed that can’t hold much. Unfortunately, the wall happens to be a focal point as it is the first thing you see when you walk in the room. I think something like this might just do the trick. Plus, I want to use my last rolls of film for my vintage Polaroid on something special.

Honor Spring ’12 collection. This is only the designer’s second collection. After this adorable showing, I think it’s safe to say Giovanna Randall made the right choice when she dropped out of med school. The full skirts and fun color combos are just what my closet is missing right now.

This jacket is stunning (plus, how cute is she?). Full, flirty skirts and cozy coats are at the top of my wish list right now. Combine the two and it’s heavenly.

I’m so glad my hair is getting long again. I am braid obsessed as of late and it doesn’t work well with short layered locks. Love this fresh take – a partial fishtail braid with waves.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Small Wonders

I’ve got the Monday blues, which means it’s the perfect time to do a new Small Wonders post. I started these posts as a way to force myself to take a moment and think about the things (and people) around me that are so special. It tends to be the little things that get easily overlooked.

Two vintage tennis rackets now hang over our bedroom closet.

A holiday gift for my sweet, smart and very style savvy niece. Kind of want them in my size.

Purple lace and sequin sweater and leggings to go with the boots for the most fashionable little lady I know.

My current desk decorations – a disfigured sphere candle next to a glittery acorn ornament.

The stack of books I am finally getting around to reading. On top are my favorite bookmarks/paper clips purchased from Kate’s Paperie in NYC.
