Striking pumps are high on my list for fall. I have my eye on a beautiful new hybrid: the pump bootie (pointy toe heels mixed with boot detailing). Inspired accents include high collar backs, laces and ankle wraps. The pointy toe and season-appropriate inspiration makes for a strong and sexy look that’s ideal for both heavy dresses with tights and pants.
1. Enzo Angiolini $120, 2. L.A.M.B. $295, 3. Salvatore Ferragamo $650, 4. Zara $70, 5. Aldo $100, 6. Zara $119.
Sometimes all I need to feel both sexy and cool is a slinky shift dress. I find myself constantly reaching for this simple silhouette when I’m in my closet looking for something to go out in, whether for a cocktail party or a dinner date with friends. This weekend was for the latter so I dressed the silk shift down with a denim jacket, fun statement heels and a high ponytail.
Dress: Barneys Co-Op (old), denim jacket: Gap, silk clutch: vintage, necklace: F21, bracelets: Sheila Fajl (thin bangles), purchased in Italy (black leather and gold), rings: Ariel Gordon (love knot and faceted rose gold band) and XIV Karats (pave band), color block heels: Aldo Rise by Preen.
Beauty notes: pale, mod colored pink nails are my go-to during the summer and I had to give my favorite manicure shade one last run before switching over to fall staples like navy blue, grey and deep magenta.
When I opt for a messy ponytail, pulling out a strand of hair to wrap around the elastic makes the look slightly more put together and polished.

This summer has been extremely busy, but I’ve managed to take advantage of any free moments by spending quality time with friends and family (without any electronic devices clutched in hand), reading (now absorbed by Gone Girl) and taking care of myself physically and mentally by getting out on hikes and taking tennis lessons. Here are a few of the little things I have enjoyed lately.
Lemon lime margarita salt shakers (from a pottery store) any my favorite vintage dish make for a summer-y cocktail bar centerpiece.
I put this succulent planter together a year ago (DIY here) and admire its growth and pretty hues (read: wonder how I haven’t killed the plants yet!) when I sit out on our patio in the warm evenings.
These nude leather ballet flats (via Banana Republic) go with everything. They are comfy, perfect for a grassy graduation (congrats to my little sister on finishing college) and flattering in a shade that nearly perfectly matches my skin tone.
A few rhinestones (and all-temperature glue via glue gun) jazz up an ordinary wine glass.
Veggie enchiladas (black bean, corn and chili) and chicken enchiladas (chicken, chili and cheese) and a Mexican-inspired fruit salad were perfect for hosting a game night with friends.
These were taken three weeks ago during our Hawaiian vacation. Even though it’s only been three weeks, the trip already seems like distant memory with the hustle and bustle of summer (graduations, Father’s Day, birthdays, weddings, BBQs etc.) Looking at these pictures brings back vivid memories of our vacation and that giddy, relaxed feeling we had during our time in paradise.
I tend to gravitate toward pieces that are simple but still make a statement. When I saw this skort (yep, bringing back the term from third grade), with its unique asymmetrical hemline, cobalt color and clean lines, I snatched it up. The shorts make this skirt’s mini length comfortable for day or night and the piece stands out whether dressed up or down.
Skort: Zara, floral blouse: Old Navy (old), glittery sandals: Target, clutch: vintage, agate necklaces: DIY (here) cuff: S.Y.L.K. boutique.
A trip to Hawaii a few weeks ago was everything we hoped the vacation would be and more. Since we have been to the Big Island many times (here and here – nearly every year for the last three), we knew this trip could be about relaxing and enjoying our surroundings without feeling like we had to do a lot of exploring.
We watched a full sunset nearly every night.
During one night the colors in the sky changed from vibrant yellows and oranges to pinks and purples.
I love checking out the wildlife in the area especially while snorkeling. This little guy was at a turtle sanctuary at the resort.
Looking up at palm trees as I swayed in a hammock on the beach.
Tasty and cooling rainbow Hawaiian shaved ice at Hapuna Beach State Park.
